The Amniotic Membrane
Prokera is a device that is made out of an amniotic membrane. These membranes are a part of the placenta that grows alongside a baby in the womb. This membrane provides protection to the baby and also helps it to develop. The biological processes that the membrane uses can help with the repair of the surface of the eye. Those biological actions make the membrane perfect for naturally treating the eyes. The tissue comes from mothers who have undergone Cesarean sections and is provided by a tissue bank that is FDA-regulated. Both the tissue and the donor who donates it have to pass several health tests before the procedure.

Prokera is worn on the eye in a way that is similar to wearing contact lenses, but they are larger.
